After spending hours testifying in the Colorado legislature against bills he opposed, Teller County Sheriff Jason Mikesell decided to run for governor.

Term-limited next year as sheriff, Mikesell, a Republican, developed his platform based on proposed solutions rather than a flurry of bills, 571 to date, introduced in the legislature.
“It’s not about being Republican, Democrat or Independent, it has to do with common sense,” he said. “I didn’t see anybody else who was running for any of these positions that I felt would make a good candidate.”
